Our timing for planting this big berm is not ideal, but we are making quick progress. Fingers crossed this weather pattern changes and we get some much needed rain.

June Container Garden Tour

Happy summer solstice! Hope this container garden tour inspires you! Guttation is the exudation of drops of xylem and phloem sap on the tips or edges of leaves of some vascular plants, such as grasses, and also a number of fungi. Ancient Latin gutta means "a drop of fluid", whence modern botany formed the word guttation to designate that a plant exudes drops of fluid onto the outer surface of t...

Growing Ginger & Turmeric in Containers
Came here for the beautiful smile and stayed for the content.
Interesting video, it was the bees knees.
The Japanese Beatles have just taken out my roses and have now started everything else. I hand pick them off and put in soapy water to try to control them.
Thank you. For giving us that design. It was wonderful.
Brie, you started the ginger and tumeric last fall. It is July, I just got some ginger and tumeric from Wegmans. Can I start them now (in July). I live in western wake county.
Yes the will provably grow faster being planted in the heat
I know you have a pretty extensive setup, but have you considered soaker hoses and/or a timer? You can get a deeper water without doing so much work...
I have used soaker hoses in the past and they cost a fortune to water a garden this size. It’s double the cost compared to using these sprinklers.
Interesting video, it was the bees knees. The next time I buy peanuts I'm going to check on the package where they are produced. Enjoy your trip and hopefully its rained before you come back.
Ok….im inspired! Just happen to have 2 small packs o’ peanuts. 👍🏻
is there any offered information for this regarding soil "or what goes in the bag" i want to try a few different ways to grow these. this is one of the ways i would like to start with. any specific add ons to your soil? to improve the flower? do you have an opinion on using Kangan water as well? the science makes sense in my head but.... what's your thoughts? i love your videos. thanks so much!
Can you post a follow up of what this turned out like?
Watch the videos in the his to Grow poppies playlist- it’s all there. If you want to follow a project you should tune into my weekly garden tours.
Ugh, hope you get some rain soon 😉
Is there a reason you don't do drip irrigation? You wouldn't have to do it all at once if it's the cost but I think it would save you money on your water bill. I would think it's much easier than what you are doing with the sprinklers.
Drip does not work well when ground plane coverage is your focus. It’s fine for trees and shrubs but doesn’t but get the space between those plants watered.
The drought stress is frustrating and it doesn’t look like we are getting any rainfall soon. I am guarding my new edgeworthia. I hope yours survive! My sunflowers look amazing though. FYI I just dropped off some pots and trays at Homewood Nursery to be recycled.
In southeastern PA we had a very dry spell last year in May-june, and the Packera aurea died back and stayed dormant for the rest of the season. I was afraid it had died, but this spring it came back like gangbusters. The blue mist flowers also did OK despite having very shallow root systems. Hopefully your plants will also be ok once some wet weather returns. 🙏
Hi Brie. I was at home depot in apex. They have an area where you can leave plastic pots and trays for others to re use. Im sure they couldnt take all of those trays but maybe some. Also, the forecast for next week looks like rain chances EVERYDAY!!!! Hooray!
Not sure if Fuquay-Varina has a stormwater program - but i know some municipalities will reimburse cistern installations. Maybe a good fit for you if you can get a sufficiently large one with a beefy pump?
Fuquay doesn’t but I’d love to geocache cistern installed under the blue house deck.
Have you considered putting in a well just for plant watering? I'm sure that would help out with the water bill, but I'm not sure if the cost of the well would not be worth it. When you have your seed sale, put the plastic plant trays and pots out for your guests to take. That seems like it would be a win for you and those that take them for their use!
We looked infinity and it’s really expensive to install.
In a drought, is it helpful to cut back plants by half so they need less water? Maybe, if you do it before it gets dry?
Enjoy your trip and maybe it will have rained before you come back.
Brie, I just found your channel and I am so enjoying it! I’m in Benson, NC and have not gardened before, but I am learning from your channel!
So glad you found me! We aren’t far apart!
Hello my friend 🙋🤝🙋🇨🇭🇨🇭 Thank you for your very beautiful video👍👍
So helpful! Thank you!
Ah Brie, you must be a terrible poker player. You are unable to disguise your disappointment with this weather. 🤷🏻♀ I concur! I’m scrambling to save a selected few of ny beloved ornamental trees as they are shriveling up. It’s been heartbreaking! However….we got a great dousing on Sun night (which will be reflected in your upcoming videos, no doubt). Got about 4” on this side of town! Gave me a break from watering….whew. Small mouth toads are singing and some insects have appeared outta hiding! Yes, agree with other comments. I’m pretty low on butterflies this year tho still have my abundance of dragonflies. Hope you are enjoying your break!
Oh wow 4”? We got 1”. You are lucky!!!
@@BrieThePlantLady isn’t that weird? Yes, some friends on your side of town got the same 1 to 1.5” of rain. Gosh, that 1” would be just a tease of moisture. Not the first time this oddity has occurred.
Great tour, it was the bees knees. We haven't seen many butterflies in the garden so far this year which is a concern and there has been a big drop in the number of bees in the last week. We have a lot of pollinator plants in the garden and I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe they will return in the near future and we have coneflowers, knapweed and rudbeckia ready to bloom for them. Hope the heavens open and lots of rain comes your way.
Yeah, here in CT I haven’t seen one butterfly or honey bee. Even at the garden centers, there’s little activity. I don’t miss the wasps, but they’re gone too.
Wow that’s terrible
Sweet, I’ve collected my poppy seeds before but then left the seed heads to dry somewhere in a paper bag…forget where I left it. (Oops!)
Oh yeah that happens too often. The refrigerator is the best place to store seed to ensure high germination rate.
Have a safe and fun trip, Brie!🌈
Thanks! Fingers crossed exactly do get to go today.
Great advice. Thanks for the tips.
Oh, one more idea - while you’re away, maybe Aiden & Abby could make a video!?
I feel for ya! On the Eastern Shore of MD, we’ve been bone dry & hot since April - but yesterday, had 1.84” of rain. 🎉 fingers are crossed for a storm for you today! I’m wondering if you can get a well dug in one of your backyards, to help with the watering? The price might be even, with the price you pay for municipal water. We have a well. I don’t hesitate to water, but it still takes all day. Nothing beats rain.
🪴🌳🪴ENJOYED🪴🌳🪴
12:35 Michigan Lilacs are the best and smell heavenly. I grew up there too. Have a great trip.
Seems like the typical NC torrential downpours have shifted to here in CT. We had another yesterday. Lost power for 8 hours. Trees down everywhere. Wishing everyone a long soft gentle rain.
Oh no!!!!
You’re the only channel I can happily watch now because everybody else has lush rainy gardens and all I can do is try to minimize loss. Group therapy I guess 😃😕 Safe travels.
Great video, wish things were better for your garden because we as gardeners love plants and don't like to see them suffer from drought. Hope the heavens open and lots of rain comes your way.
We got 1” abd a cancelled flight! Wound up today to a cool breeze (at home!) and no need to run sprinklers today.
This is amazing! I love watching your videos, and have been watching for a few years since I started gardening. Do you think this would work as an organic method to treat for mosquitoes in my rain barrel? I use the water to water my veggies, so I have been on the hunt for an organic solution that keeps the water safe for my edible plants.
Yes!!! You can add these to anything that holds water
I saw on the radar what looked like rain over Fuquay!!!! Yay!!! Im in western wake county. it completely passed me by 😥
We got 1/4” and a cancelled flight 😂
Your videos are so good, so great. I really enjoy watching your videos. I wish you lots of health and success 💪💪
Thank you!!
You learn something new everyday, we don't get mosquitos in Ireland. Years ago we used to go on holidays to southeast Asia and my wife would be eaten alive but they never came near me don't no why.
I think they are attracted to specific blood types.
I've used mosquito dunks in my wildlife pond for years. They work and don't hurt the fish or frogs. Several of my neighbors use those mosquito spraying companies. The companies are very aggressive and frequently try to push me sign up. I always refuse. My yard is full of birds, pollinators and wildlife.
I tried putting these in buckets of water around the yard. The result was drowned frogs so put a rock in there. It does kill larvae, but there were still mosquitoes around as my house backs the woods. It’s cheaper to just change the birdbath water.
Well, if you take my advice and grow rice in those buckets you won’t drown frogs and you will help reduce mosquitoes.
What amount of water is required throughout?
There should be standing water until it sets seed.
Great job!
Can you grow poppies in the Arizona desert?
I doubt it. You should look to local resources. I’ve never lived in Arizona and definitely cannot give good advice on gardening there.
Great job! I will send watery thoughts your way. 😄🌧️🌧️
Thank you!
1,500?! I won't whine now when I need to plant 12 plants.
Great planting and great selection of plants its going to look amazing when in full bloom. Hope the heavens open and you get the rain you need for your garden.
Thank you! Oy sweet rain would be so welcomed!
I’ve found that coneflowers and pretty much anything in the rudbeckia family are really tough and can handle the edge of a woodland. They’d brighten that area up.
Yeah coneflowers are NOT full sun tolerant here at all.
Looks magnificent well done work very hard ❤
Marvellous work. Winter here and its cold and miserable.. but the days will sloooooowly get longer now❤
My dream is to hop the equator twice a year and live in perpetual long days! I’d like to be “down under” November-March.
I assume you well watered the soil 'before' digging - yes? I'll have to go back and see what plants these are. Very very very nice project!
